Apple Tree Dental in conjunction with Rochester area community leaders has launched an innovative new program that will deliver on-site dental care
to about 1,200 seniors and adults who haven’t been able to get regular dental care. For more than a year, local dentists and hygienists working
together with physicians from the Mayo Clinic and nurses from Olmsted County have been working hard to design and launch the Rochester Area Eldercare
program to deliver on-site dental care at more than a dozen residential facilities in the area. Local foundations, corporations and businesses have
also teamed up to provide the resources needed to launch the new program.
The new Rochester Area Eldercare Program will begin serving patients in July 2008 using advanced mobile dental offices that are delivered to senior living
centers, and then set-up inside the facility so that patients, including those confined to wheelchairs, don’t have to travel to get the dental care
they need. Apple Tree uses a new team approach that optimizes the roles of hygienists who function as frontline primary care providers and dentists
who function like dental geriatricians.
